Marie Rose Riggio Young passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, just days after celebrating her 92nd birthday on January 4. She had been a longtime resident of Temple City, California, since her marriage to her beloved husband, Francis “Bill” Young, on February 9, 1952.
Marie was born on January 4, 1934, in Los Angeles, California, to Frank and Frances Riggio. She grew up in Alhambra and graduated from Mark Keppel High School in January 1952. She and Bill were married at the San Gabriel Mission and then moved into the Temple City home where Marie resided for the remainder of her life.
Marie was a homemaker with many additional talents and pursuits. In the early years of their marriage, she and Bill owned and operated a small grocery store in Highland Park until the late 1960’s, with Marie managing all of the bookkeeping. She was deeply involved in parish and school life at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, generously giving her time and energy to her faith community.
In the late 1970’s, after raising her children, Marie embarked on a highly successful real estate career—a profession she truly loved. She had the perfect personality for it: highly social, impeccable with numbers, and genuinely invested in her clients. Marie relished the challenge of negotiating and was passionate about securing the very best deals possible.
Marie was a woman of many talents. She was not the traditional cookie-baking mother, but rather a feisty Italian woman of conviction—strong, capable, and mighty in every way. She shared a deep and unwavering Catholic faith with Bill throughout their lives. Marie was passionate about her family, her health, horse racing, blackjack, and politics. If you asked her opinion, you could always count on a brutally honest answer, delivered with quick wit.
For decades, Marie hosted Sunday family dinners and was able to repair just about anything in the house. She enjoyed her trips to Laughlin & Vegas, she was an excellent gambler and definitely enjoyed the fruits of her labor. She was also a gifted athlete who enjoyed bowling, slow-pitch softball, pool, family camping and ranch trips, riding motorcycles, and driving the dune buggy on those adventures.
Marie cherished her role as a mother to her five children: Frank, Bruce, Mark, Debbie, and Chris. She was a fun, engaged mom who always knew what was going on in her children’s lives and gladly joined in their activities. She later embraced her role as grandmother to fourteen grandchildren and great-grandmother to fifteen great-grandchildren, supporting and encouraging each of them with endless love.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who passed away in 2019 & grandson, Aiden who passed away in 2003. She is survived by her children: Frank (Terry), Bruce (Claudia), Mark (Sally), Debbie (Larry), and Chris; her grandchildren: Cynthia Emery, Jason Young (Suzi), Micaela Jaime (Matt), Matthew Risoldi, Emily Wells (Ryan), Joseph Young (Brittany), Timothy Young, Mary Kopecko (Matt), Alyssa Young, Simon Young, Noah Young, and Kellie Young; and her great-grandchildren: Taylor Emery, Jameson Emery, Ben Jaime, Jonas Young, Isaac Young, Hudson Jaime, Ireland Emery, Alena Young, Giada Risoldi, Monroe Jaime, Hanna Young, Cecelia Young, Vincent Young, Brodie Young, and James Young.
Marie’s life was defined by faith, strength, honesty, and fierce devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed and her legacy will forever be remembered.
