

Olive Margaret Dibben Kemp
October 25, 1917 – December 16, 2018, Olive Margaret was born in Chicago, Illinois to parents Minnie Eliza (Dey) and Walter Dibben. Her family moved to Los Angeles in 1923 where she later attended South Pasadena High School, Occidental College, and Bright Mann Business College. She owned the First Street Store in East Los Angeles until it closed in 2007 after over 83 years of business. She was a passionate supporter of animal causes and was a docent at Los Angeles Zoo for 20 years. She volunteered in the zoo’s nursery and was very proud of hand-raising the baby gorillas and orangutans. She is survived by her son Robert Downey Kemp Jr. and daughter Ruth Kemp, grandchildren Rachelle Joy (Kathleen Peppers) and Raquelle Joy-Gluvna (Mark Gluvna); Great-Grandchildren Marissa Joy-Kurtz Bell (Michael Bell), Cameron Joy-Kurtz, Dallon Joy-Gluvna; Great-Great Grandchildren Jonathan Bell and Faye Bell. She was proceeded in death by husband Robert Downey Kemp and daughter Diana (Dee) Lee Kemp Joy Sybrandt. She was the matriarch of our family and our hearts grieve without her unceasing presence. Services will be held at St. Edmonds Episcopal Church in San Marino on January 4th at 11:00 with a reception following. Graveside service will be at San Gabriel Cemetery at 2:00.
