Hey dad, it’s been a while since you passed and iv’e been thinking to myself lately and just thinking about seeing you like that in the casket breaks my heart. I would give up my life to see you again and you were the most amazing person ever. You were selfless you put your family and your kids first that’s what i loved about you and because you’re my father. I write to myself about my thoughts and i would have made you proud one day and you missed my 13th bday. It just breaks my heart knowing i cant come home after school and run up to you and tell you about my day. But instead i have to write to you because you are not here any more. 


I pray and pray everyday for you. I know your watching down on me but i want you to guide me down the right paths i want you to see me succeed in life i want to make your dreams come true, with just one generation me and my sister can make it happen. The belief and the inspiring things you have said and done really makes an impact on my life. Im just glad you were my father and you were there for me my whole life. I promise to carry on your happy soul and your legacy. Im glad we had the chance to cherish our moments together before you passed if i have more on my mind i will come back to write to express my thoughts.

I am in fifth grade, but when he passed away, I was in 4th and I was really attached to him and didn't want him to leave. I loved my dad with all my heart and soul, he said he promised he would never leave me but, there's always a change to something. I miss him so much and I hope he has a great afterlife, I love you, dad.

Koi's generosity had no limit.

As his older brother, I went off to the Philippines to go to college. Every year I would come back a broke college student, Koi would let me have whatever I wanted from his shoe and clothing collection. I took some of his best clothes and shoes to take back with me and I will always feel how loved I was for his endless generosity.  Koi and my entire family helped me with financial and emotional support through my college life in the Philippines and for that I am truly grateful.  For your lil brother to help put your through college during his own early 20's is remarkable. It just goes to show how big of a heart Cesar had for his family and friends. If he had an opportunity to help someone he would. 

Cesar loves to spark up a conversation with neighbors and other strangers to see how they were doing. He will find ways to offer assistance when he could.

I will make sure your kids have the same love and generosity towards other humans. We will carry on your kindness and love my brother. I love you.

Koi had a heart of a lion.

When we were in 3rd grade were were hanging out after school at the basketball courts of windmill springs. An older man in his 20s or 30s came up and starting talking to us kids and then tried to take Koi's bike. Koi ran after him and held on to his bike and never let go. That grown man couldn't handle Koi's commitment to that bike and eventually ran away. Imagine that now a 3rd grader fighting off a grown man for tryin to steal a bike. His strong spirit and energy carried him throughout his life. He may have been a quiet one, but when ever he spoke you can feel the strength in his voice and in his delivery. 

I tried my best to open up that fire inside you bro so you can show the entire world your potential. I will vow to keep that fire in me and represent your spirit as best as I can. I have big shoes to fill with such a deep soul as yours. Your artistic and spiritual approach to life unmeasurable. We'll carry your practice of kindness to others and love for one another for the rest of our lives.

“Can you and Abby be Shane and Sophia’s Ninong and Ninang?,” Koi asked my wife and I when Shane was 2 and Sophia was a new born. Let me share a few stories why we accepted this honor with no hesitation.
In 2006, Koi was living in Stockton. Certes and I were in San Jose starting our careers. I was driving a 1999 Pontiac that Certes leant me because I could not afford to purchase a car. The car broke down suddenly but barely could be driven to Stockton so it could be fixed by a cost effective mechanic. Certes called Koi at 10 PM on a Monday and Koi immediately made the 4 hour round trip from Stockton to San Jose so that we could bring the car to Stockton and Certes and I could travel back together. Koi drove 2 hours from Stockton to San Jose to pick up the car and then drove back 2 hours back to Stockton immediately so we could drop off the car. No hesitation, no complaints.
Throughout my 12 years here in the bay area, Certes and I moved around from different apartments about every two years. Koi was always there to help us because we could always count on him. He was essential with the biggest move in 2017 when Abby and I decided to leave California and drive across country to South Carolina. Who was there always giving a helping hand? Koi of course. No hesitation, no complaints just happy to help because we are part of his family. He also gave love to his nephew and Kids
He showed his love also to his nephew, Matthew. Their relationship was more like big brother little bro. That was because Koi didn’t have a younger brother hence the reason Matthew calls him by his first name. From the time Matt was a baby throughout his teenage years. KoKoi was always there loving him through his actions. Koi was the one sitting in traffic making sure Matthew made it to his basketball games and practices. Even when Matt’s schedule required them to travel from San Jose all the way to Burlingame which can be a 90 minute commute with traffic. No matter what time of the day KoKoi would

I remember when he let me ware the shoes out the store and I stared dancing and I remember when we went to San Francisco and all the times we had a fun time and I will always remember you and have you in my heart forever love you dad😭

To Uncle Koi, 
From the time I spent with the Cagape family when you guys were in town, you literally brought so much laughter and smiles into the room. I don’t think there was really a dull moment when you were in the room, you just knew how to make people laugh with your stories and jokes. You always put your family first especially your kids. Shane and Sophia will grow up to be light hearted and full of wonderful energy just like you. 

RIP Kuya. I’m glad I had the chance to meet you even if it was only for a day. Love and condolences to Tita, Kuya Certes, Ate Nene, Sophia, and Shane.


I’m my entire life I’ve never met someone as selfless as you! You’ve always put others before yourself— you gave us the true example of unconditional love! Kuya, words can’t express how much I’m doing to miss you! From hearing you make music while you lived in Stockton to our short and funny conversations! You always made me laugh at the simplest things! Man of few words but actions always speak louder than words! You were always there and I’m going to miss you physical presence—but I know you’ll be here with us on a daily basis watching out for us. I miss and love you Kuya! -Abby 

I will miss you Coy! I wish we hung out more when you were in Salisbury and that I was able to see your kids grow up. I'm sure they will be in good hands with your brother and sister. Say hi to my mom and your Tito Soy when you see them in heaven. I love you as with all the Carandang side of the family.
