Daisy Yolanda (Rivera) Duran

Daisy Yolanda Rivera Duran, beloved mother, sister, wife and friend, passed away April 2, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on August 13, 1948 to Luisa del Carmen Ortiz and Vicente Ines Rivera, she was a longtime citizen of San Jose, California and passed peacefully in her cherished home surrounded by her loyal husband and loving son.

Daisy was known for her inner strength, her devotion to her Catholic faith, and her unconditional love and support to her three children Kerim, David, Luisa. Raised by her widowed mother on a cattle ranch in El Salvador, she was the youngest of 11 children and learned early in life the importance of hope. No matter the trials and challenges of life, she always found a way forward, always with a smile and upbeat attitude, teaching her children the gifts of strength, faith and hope. She adored St. Jude Thaddeus, patron saint of hope and impossible causes, and regularly visited his shrine at St. Dominic’s Church in San Francisco, even carrying his prayer card everywhere she went.

She graced friends, family, neighbors and strangers with her radiant smile, warm laugh, cheerful personality, and delicious homemade cooking. She loved family gatherings, often with lively music and dancing. She savored all that her life in California had to offer, including scenic drives, walks along the ocean, entertaining movies and film festivals, and cherished time with her family. She lived fearlessly, always open to new travels and adventures, leaving positive memories with all she was with.

She was a beautiful soul who knew no limits to her love. In a moment’s notice, she showed up to support her children through tribulations and celebrations. With an open heart she welcomed life as it may be. Although Daisy is gone, her love and strength will live in all our hearts forever.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years Kerim Elias Duran Sr.; her children Kerim Duran Jr., David Duran and wife Joanna, Luisa Sullivan and husband Michael; grandchildren, Delaney, Cecilia, Annie, Peter, Ethan; sister Angela Lopez, brothers Joaquin, Jose, Gustavo Rivera. She is preceded by her parents Luisa and Vicente Rivera, her brothers Marcial, Felipe, Vicente and Tony Rivera and her sisters Maria Colorado and Paz Dirksen.

A celebration of life will be at Willow Glen Funeral Home, in San Jose, California. As Daisy found hope, even in the impossible circumstances, and always moved forward with a bright smile, the family asks that you do the same – keep hopeful, moving forward with a smile, no matter life circumstances!

Daisy Yolanda Rivera Durán, amada madre, hermana, esposa y amiga, falleció el 2 de abril de 2025, a la edad de 76 años. Nacida el 13 de agosto de 1948, hija de Luisa del Carmen Ortiz y Vicente Inés Rivera, fue ciudadana de San José, California desde hace mucho tiempo y falleció pacíficamente en su querido hogar rodeada de su leal esposo y su amado hijo.

Daisy era conocida por su fuerza interior, su devoción a su fe católica y su amor y apoyo incondicional a sus tres hijos Kerim, David y Luisa. Criada por su madre viuda en un rancho ganadero en El Salvador, era la menor de 11 hermanos y aprendió desde temprana edad la importancia de la esperanza. Sin importar las pruebas y desafíos de la vida, ella siempre encontró un camino a seguir, siempre con una sonrisa y una actitud optimista, enseñando a sus hijos los dones de la fuerza, la fe y la esperanza. Adoraba a San Judas Tadeo, santo patrón de la esperanza y las causas imposibles, y visitaba regularmente su santuario en la Iglesia de Santo Domingo en San Francisco, e incluso llevaba su estampita de oración a todos lados.

Ella honró a amigos, familiares, vecinos y extraños con su sonrisa radiante, risa cálida, personalidad alegre y deliciosa comida casera. Le encantaban las reuniones familiares, a menudo con música y bailes animados. Saboreó todo lo que su vida en California tenía para ofrecer, incluidos recorridos panorámicos, paseos por el océano, películas entretenidas y festivales de cine, y un preciado tiempo con su familia. Vivió sin miedo, siempre abierta a nuevos viajes y aventuras, dejando recuerdos positivos con todo lo que tenía.

Era un alma hermosa que no conocía límites a su amor. En cualquier momento, ella apareció para apoyar a sus hijos a través de tribulaciones y celebraciones. Con el corazón abierto acogió la vida tal como sea. Aunque Daisy ya no esté, su amor y su fuerza vivirán en todos nuestros corazones para siempre.

Le sobreviven su esposo durante 49 años, Kerim Elias Duran Sr.; sus hijos Kerim Duran Jr., David Duran y su esposa Joanna, Luisa Sullivan y su esposo Michael; nietos, Delaney, Cecilia, Annie, Peter, Ethan; hermana Ángela López, hermanos Joaquín, José, Gustavo Rivera. Le anteceden sus padres Luisa y Vicente Rivera, sus hermanos Marcial, Felipe, Vicente y Tony Rivera y sus hermanas María Colorado y Paz Dirksen.

Una celebración de la vida será en Willow Glen Funeral Home, en San José, California.
