Domenica Perucca, born October 18, 1925, died at the age of 93 on February 4, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Bernardino and Maria Barbero, from Valmala, Provincia di Cuneo, Italy. She was raised on Banks St. in San Francisco (Bernal Heights), began her married life with Dominic Perucca in a house down the street from her parents. After 11 years of marriage, her family moved to Fremont in 1957. Before having children and becoming a “home engineer,” Domenica worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, San Francisco, as an administrative assistant.
Domenica was a very spirited, independent woman of strength, deep faith, and hope, who loved her God, her family, friends, and pets (not necessarily in that order!). She was a model for "volunteerism", volunteering in many different areas in Public Education, such as PTA President, Room Mother (numerous times), Scout leader (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts) and in various Community Programs (Library, Arden Park). Domenica was recognized for her 22 years teaching in various grade levels in the Religious Education Programs at St. Joseph Parish in Mission San Jose and for her 30 years volunteering in weekly sessions to help organize and create beautiful crafts for the annual “Holy Family Sisters’ Christmas Boutique” that raised funds for the Order.
Domenica was known for her love of reading books as well as reading a daily newspaper with a steaming cup of coffee. She enjoyed sewing, playing games with the family, and going to garage and estate sales where she loved the hunt, the bargaining, and the thrill of sharing her unique treasures with others. Domenica was known to always be in attendance at her children’s sports’ games and served as little league and major league team mother. Rain or shine, she even attended every football game of her son, David, and continued the tradition by attending all the football games of his twin sons.
Even though she was a "city-girl", she enjoyed traveling in their motor home, boating, and especially camping in the Housekeeping Units in Yosemite Valley, which for some family members has become an annual tradition. Domenica was adventurous. She loved water skiing, fishing, white water rafting, and at age 62 she took beginning downhill ski lessons, and even went snowmobiling.
Domenica was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Dominic Perucca, her son
Michael Perucca (Leslie), her parents Bernardino and Maria Barbero, her mother-in-law Angelina Bogliani Perucca, her sisters Catherine Pucci (Joe), and Mary Perucca (Pete), and her brother Martin Barbero (Mary). She was a devoted mother to Barbara Charlet, Janet Perucca-Kleinhofer, Gloria Perucca, David Perucca (Daphne), Ken Perucca, Gramma to 8 grandchildren, Granmama to 12 great grandchildren, and loving "mother" to her current dogs Ginger and Maggie.
Domenica will be remembered for how she lived and loved throughout her life.
"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends" 1 Corinthians 13: 7-8
Domenica is already greatly missed. . . . Rest in peace our dear Mom, Gramma, and Granmama. Thank you for loving us and guiding us through life’s challenges and joys.
