Elena de la Torre Medina, a lifelong resident of San Jose, California, entered eternal rest on January 3, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on October 5, 1949, she was the youngest of seven children of the late Jose and Sara de la Torre.
In 1967, Elena married Manuel Medina, becoming a cherished member of the Medina-Cruz family. The couple shared 54 years of marriage until Manuel’s passing in 2022. Together they devoted their lives to raising their four children and later to the joy of their nine grandchildren.
Elena worked in various roles throughout her life and took great pride in her career in the manufacturing industry before retiring. In retirement, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to caring for and helping raise her grandchildren. Much of Elena’s life was spent selflessly caring for others. Her life was defined by her generosity, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She was happiest when surrounded by those she loved.
When she made time for herself, Elena enjoyed reading, gardening, watching novelas, and going on motorcycle rides with her beloved husband, whom she affectionately called “Meme.” She adored her chihuahuas and was well regarded for making the most delicious meals. She could lighten any mood with her incredible sense of humor and spoiled others with love, comfort, and goodies from Peter’s Bakery.
Elena is survived by her children: Anna Medina Hawkes (Henry), Manuel Jr. (Barbara) Medina, Johnny Medina, and Angela Jo Medina (Victor Ramirez); her grandchildren: Jordan Medina, Keara Medina, Sara Hawkes, Jesse Hawkes, Alexander Ramirez, Lilly Medina, Angel Ramirez, Eleanor (Ellie) Medina, Andres Ramirez, Vanessa Brown and Laurelle Flores; and her brother John de la Torre. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel, her parents Jose and Sara de la Torre, her siblings Bill, Marie, Virginia, Armida, and Lupe, and her granddaughter Elizabeth Medina.
Elena’s legacy of love, devotion, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Thank you for all your love, Mom. We love you.
