Elizabeth Cang, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich, was born in 1959 in Saigon, Vietnam. She was the 3rd youngest in a family of 12 siblings - 6 boys and 6 girls. Her early life in Vietnam was marked by the backdrop of war, which she courageously escaped in 1981 by boat. In 1982, she immigrated to Stockton, California where she earned her Associate's Degree at San Joaquin Delta College, quickly assimilated to American culture, and began her career. She moved to San Jose, CA and married John Cang in 1993, and welcomed their daughter Michelle in 1996. Professionally, Elizabeth worked in the technology industry for 30 years. For the last 15 years, she worked at Broadcom as an engineering technician, assisting engineers with research and development. Wherever she worked, she earned the admiration and love of her work family.
Elizabeth was strong-willed, hardworking, and very intelligent, yet generous, funny, and always playful. She was the life of every party and often had the loudest laugh in the room. She was generous in every way, whether it be spending all the time needed to care for her siblings or in-laws, funding the construction of the Our Lady of La Vang Parish and impoverished communities in Vietnam, or even just buying daily dinner for her brothers' and sisters' families. Over the years, she became a very savvy long-term investor who built a nice retirement nest-egg for her family. She took pride in also helping her extended family, friends, and colleagues reach the same goals.
Elizabeth embodied resilience. Arriving in America with nothing but the clothes on her back, she forged a successful career, nurtured a loving family, and crafted a fulfilling life. Defined by her wit and strength, she faced every challenge with unmatched fortitude. In her battle with leukemia, she lived up to her own description, fighting as, in her own words, "the best fighter."
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, John, daughter, Michelle, and siblings, Thang, Tuyet, Nam, Viet, Huong, Thuy, Hung Anh, Hao, Lan, and Diep. Her ashes will be laid to rest in a niche in St. Francis of Assisi's Memorial Garden.
We warmly invite friends and family to join us in celebrating Elizabeth's remarkable life.
