He was born on November 12, 1933, in Redbank, California, where his story began — rooted in faith, hard work, and the quiet beauty of small-town life.
Fred grew up with a craftsman’s hands and an artist’s heart. At Woodlake High School, his creativity shone early on, catching the attention of a teacher who saw in him something special. That spark earned him a scholarship to the College of the Sequoias, where he studied Building Trades and learned the skills that would become his lifelong calling.
At 21, Fred was drafted into the United States Army, training at Fort Ord in Monterey and Fort Lewis in Washington before being stationed in Munich, Germany. There, he served at the 1908 U.S. Army Hospital under the 7th Medical Command, where his steady spirit and sense of duty supported the hospital’s daily work. In Munich, he also found his way back to the altar — serving in a local church, learning the rhythms of Latin mass by heart, even without understanding the words. His faith was always less about language, and more about devotion.
When his service ended, Fred came home to California and poured everything he had into his craft. He worked as a carpenter in San Jose, building homes with the same care and patience he gave to the people he loved. His hands shaped not just wood, but a legacy — one that would live on through the generations of his family.
Fred will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his unwavering dedication to the people he loved. He believed in doing things right, in showing up for others, and in finding grace in everyday work.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria Elena Villarreal Asebes, and their three daughters: Cynthia Asebes K., Sylvia Asebes, and Monica Asebes-G.
He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren — Javier, Adriana, Omar, Victor, Tariq, Andreas, Jake, and Caitlyn — and his great-grandchildren Isiah, Elijah, Xavier, Talia, and Mia, all of whom will carry his love and lessons forward.
Fred’s story is one of quiet strength — of a man who built his life the way he built everything else: steady, precise, and with love in every detail.
