December 8th, 1936 - February 20th, 2024
Gloria Wells, a beloved soul who graced this world with her presence, peacefully departed on February 20th, 2024, at her home in Silicon Valley. Surrounded by the unwavering support of her son and dedicated caregiver, Gloria transitioned to eternal rest.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, on December 8th, 1936, to Fad Fred Tucker and Jonnie Bell Jackson, Gloria was a beacon of strength and wisdom within her loving family. She joined her brothers Richard, Floyd, Fred, and sisters Doris, Lucille, Carolyn, and Brenda in creating a tight-knit bond that lasted a lifetime.
Gloria leaves behind a legacy of family, education, and service. She was the proud mother of Darrell Townsel of San Jose, California, and Stephanie Townsel, who now rests with her in eternity. Gloria also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Darnell Townsel of Atlanta, Georgia, and Justin Townsel of Oakland, California, as well as two great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Neveah Townsel, both thriving in their careers within the United States Navy.
Gloria's educational journey was as diverse as her interests. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Nutritional Science from Michigan State University on June 8th, 1958, followed by an Associate degree in Marketing from San Jose City College on June 6th, 1989. Her academic pursuits culminated in a Master's degree in Health Services Administration from St. Mary's College in California on December 19th, 1991.
A dedicated professional, Gloria devoted 17 years of service to Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, California, beginning her career as a registered dietitian and ascending to the role of Director of Support Services.
Beyond her professional life, Gloria was a passionate creator and artist. She enjoyed crafting jewelry, photography, painting, doll-making, and various arts and crafts. Her commitment to genealogy manifested in her efforts to document the family tree.
In the later years of her life, Gloria found solace in sewing. As an active member of the American Sewing Guild in San Jose, she contributed her skills to support troops overseas, cancer patients, and, at the onset of the pandemic, crafted masks for Kaiser Permanente when they were in high demand.
Gloria's life philosophy centered around family, education, and self-improvement. She believed in facing challenges with a strategic approach:
1. **STOP**: Assess the problem and break it down into manageable parts.
2. **SORT**: Prioritize tasks to focus on what is essential.
3. **EXECUTE BY THE NUMBERS**: Follow the plan with dedication.
Her guiding thought remains engraved in our hearts: "Whenever you are presented with a challenging or seemingly overwhelming situation, do the following: STOP, SORT, EXECUTE BY THE NUMBERS."
Gloria Wells' indomitable spirit, profound wisdom, and unconditional love will be dearly missed but forever cherished by all whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
Gloria's service will be livestreamed for friends and family who are unable to attend. Please follow this link: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/2123872717
