Henry is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his son Daniel and daughter in law Josie Perez of Gilroy, CA and son Henry Jr. of Orlando, FL, siblings Angeles Camacho, of Alhambra, CA and grand and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents Rosendo and Maria Perez and brothers John and Ralph Perez of Los Angeles, CA.
Henry was born on October 26, 1926 in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico to Rosendo and Maria Perez. He attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Los Angeles, CA where he excelled as a gymnast and in track and field. He enlisted in the Army in April of 1945 to serve his country and help support his family. In the Army, he was stationed in Yokohama, Japan where he supervised operations involving the loading and discharging of cargo. Upon his honorable discharge, he became an American citizen and entered the workforce as a foundry worker at a Los Angeles steel mill.
Henry married Rebecca Carrillo, the love of his life, on April 10, 1948. They proceeded to have two sons and moved to Montebello, CA in 1961. There, Henry began working for Annin Corporation as a Production Control Supervisor. Henry retired in 1991 and filled his days with golf, visits to Santa Anita Race Track and visits with his favorite granddaughter Sonata. In Henry’s later years, he and his wife Rebecca moved to San Jose, CA to be closer to his family. His children, family, friends and anyone he met remember him as a kind, gentle, patient and fun loving person. A positive spirit who encouraged people to pursue their dreams.
Henry was an accomplished athlete and could be often found on weeknights with his bowling and softball leagues or on the weekend hitting the golf links. He also had a life-long commitment to physical fitness especially weight lifting. He was a fun loving jokester and life of any party. To find Henry at a party you need only follow the laughter. If you didn’t get one of his jokes the first time, you needn’t worry you would soon hear it again, again and again. He had a green thumb and was proud of his home and garden always drawing the admiration from neighbors. He made friends wherever he went, and everyone who came to know him, loved him. Henry had a special gift with children. His nieces and nephews flocked to him for his playfulness and fun spirit. His granddaughter and her two children anticipated each visit with their “Kiki” for the dancing, singing, fun stories and love.
Henry was a devoted brother to his siblings, especially close to his sister Angeles “Nena” Camacho. They called each other daily to check on one another and just to say “I love you.” During their 69 years of marriage, Henry was devoted to his wife Rebecca. Together, they hosted countless parties with dancing and entertaining with their larger than life personalities. They were always giving to family and friends, whether it was a home cooked meal, a place to stay or support for a rainy day. He will be missed by all but always fondly remembered. May he rest in peace.
A funeral mass is scheduled for May, 9, 2017 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph’s in San Jose, CA with a burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. A reception honoring Henry will be held at the Three Flames Restaurant in San Jose, CA. Father Hugo Rojas will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Henry’s life.
