

Foster City, CA -- Modesto Legaspi Evangelista, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 13, 2017 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto. He was born February 12, 1938 in Villasis, Pangasinan Province, Philippines, to Felipe and Flora Evangelista. Modesto graduated with honors from Central College of Pangasinan High School before attending the Philippine Military Academy. Modesto enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving a new country that he loved before retiring honorably from active duty after 20 years. In addition to serving aboard the USS Forrestal, the world’s first super aircraft carrier, he was a decorated war veteran, having been awarded with the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, along with other numerous commendations and awards.
Modesto was an accomplished cook, an active member of the Ulo Ng Apo Filipino Association, and an avid fan of the San Francisco 49'ers. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family, and a favorite "uncle" to all. His greatest joy in life were his seven grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Erlinda; his daughter and son-in-law, Ethelinda and Eric Corpuz; his son and daughter-in-law, Reuel and Lucy Evangelista; his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Michelle Evangelista; and his beloved grandchildren, Brandon, Briana, Nicolas, Alyssa, Christina, Kaitlyn, and Tristen.
Visitation will be on Friday September 29, 2017 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park in San Jose, with a rosary afterwards starting at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday September 30, 2017 at 9:00 am at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park's Chapel of the Oaks.
