“Blessed are the caregivers for they are the angels from heaven”
U Nuoi was our family’s angel. She came to her adopted family as a young teenager and stayed with us for over 70 years until her peaceful passing on Good Friday. Three generations of our family are indebted to U as she played such prominent role in our collective family. While we are sad U is no longer with us on earth, we are delighted she is united with our family members in God’s kingdom.
U lived a simple life with simple needs. Her greatest joy was to make sure everyone she cared for was happy. In the kitchen, she ruled her space jealously. In the household, she brought order when chaos often transpired. Her gentle words and effusive smiles put everyone at ease. U was a part of our family’s history. She was part of our family’s exodus from North to South Vietnam in 1954 and came to the US with us after the Vietnam War ended by surviving days of hardship at sea. She lived with us in Maryland and later in California. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Vietnamese soap operas. She looked forward to going out to dinner and “showing off” her jade jewelry.
This blessed angel made all of us better individuals. Over the 70 years, she never raised her voice nor did she ever display a fiber of anger toward anyone. Her simple ways will hopefully teach us not to take ourselves too seriously in life. Rest in peace U for you lived a full life and we are blessed to have had you as part of our family.
