Robert Douglas Owens

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert Douglas Owens announce his passing. Surrounded by loved ones, our cherished Robby passed away on March 5th, 2018 due to sudden medical complications. Robert was the beloved father to Jenae and Justin, brother to Mike, Carolyn, Kenny, and Pat, and a grandfather to Elijah. Though no longer married, Robert was a best friend to Annette, an uncle, cousin, and coworker, not to mention, a friend to most people he met. Robert will be greatly missed as his friends and family try to make sense of a bright light, lost too soon.

Robert’s passing was preceded by the death of his father Robert, mother Gloria and brother Pat.

Robert was born July 25, 1959 in Fairbanks, Alaska at Ladd Air Force Base. He moved to California in 1961, then spent 4 years in Germany before moving back to the states, where he would spend the rest of his life in CA. He graduated from Piedmont High School in 1977 in San Jose, California.

Robert was a loyal employee of Strom Properties where he dedicated over 30 years of his life to a career in managing and maintaining an apartment complex. He showed us all how you can truly do what you love and love what you do.

Perhaps best known for his big smile and even bigger heart, Robert was the third born in what would grow to become a large, tight-knit family. The children of Gloria and Robert Owens Sr. are blessed to be as close as siblings can be. Even into adulthood, with families of their own, the Owens siblings spent countless weekends together, making memories that shaped and defined their relationships with one another. Those treasured memories of playing with siblings and cousins will live on forever in the hearts of Robert’s relatives as they remember how big Robert’s love was for his family.

Robert was the most caring father. His children regard him as the best dad for which they could have asked. They are eternally grateful for his love, generosity, and the good times they shared. There wasn’t anything Robert would not do for his daughter and son. He was their guiding light and endless well of support. He will be fondly remembered and painfully missed by them and his only grandson Elijah who, even though is young, got to learn so much from his Papa Robby.

Robert had an incredible sense of humor and lived life to the fullest. Always ready for an adventure, you never knew when Robert would be out of town on a road-trip, boat-ride, or kayak-cruise with his closest companions. If you did happen to catch Robert in town, he was all too happy to go out to dinner or whip up an incredible meal or signature snack. No one will forget how easy it was to laugh and relax with this kind man. He will always be remembered as a fun and loving person who lent a helping hand to everyone.
