

William Otay, 98, passed away on December 23rd at his home in San Jose. William is survived by his daughter, Theresa Bovey, son, William Otay Jr., granddaughter, Marie Bovey, son-in- law, Ron Bovey, daughter-in-law, Diana Otay and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
William was born in Weldon, California in 1918. He was the youngest son of Laura and Timothy Otay, growing up with seven older brothers and sisters. At the time of his passing, William was the oldest living member of the indigenous Tubatulabal Tribe of the Kern River Valley in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of Southern California.
William was a veteran of World War II, serving his country with pride and honor as a medic. After the war, William returned to San Jose, California to raise his family.
Known by many family members as “Uncle Bill” and “Papa”, William was a retired member of Union Local 270, working in construction for most of his adult life. He was an avid sports enthusiast and rooted for the Oakland A’s. He also had a passion and talent for gardening.
William has been a resident of San Jose for over 70 years. He will be remembered for his dedication and loyalty to his family; many of whom thrived with his love, support and guidance.
Services will be held on January 6th and 7th in the Chapel of the Roses at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.
