

Mary Stevens Solomon Passed away peacefully February 22, 2014. Mary, the youngest of five children, was born January 11, 1929 in North Stratford, New Hampshire to Aaron E. Stevens and Flora (Hapgood) Stevens. A tenth generation New Englander, Mary was known to those acquainted with her for her strength, independence, humor, kindness, love of music, and deep devotion to her family. After graduating from high school in North Stratford, Mary attended the University of New Hampshire. Able to speak both French and German, she secured a position at the Pentagon and then went on to work for NATO in Paris. Returning to the US she began a career as a legal secretary with Goodrich & Amram in Washington DC and for the McCutchen firm and Cooper, White & Cooper in San Francisco. In 1959 she married Frank Solomon, Jr. and moved to Marin County, California the following year, where they raised three children together. She was a resident of Marinwood for over 50 years, worked at the Marin County Planning Department and was active with the Dixie School District and Marin Youth Orchestra. Later in her life Mary returned to work in San Francisco for the law firms of Adams & Hobbs and Thacher, Albrecht & Ratcliff. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Cindy in 1977. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Frank Solomon, Jr.; sons Richard and Frank Solomon; daughters-in-law Susan Solomon and Dorothy Louise Vickroy; grandson Lucas Solomon and granddaughter Cristina Solomon. A Celebration of Mary's life will take place on Sunday, March 9 at 2:00pm at The Falkirk Cultural Center, 1408 Mission Ave., San Rafael, CA 94901.
