

Maureen H. Keating Jun 13, 1931 Dec. 11, 2013 Mrs. Keating was born to James F. and M. Gertrude Harahan, in Providence, R.I. She attended Georgetown Visitation, and graduated from Immaculata H.S., Washington D.C. She later graduated from George Washington University and NYU. Mrs. Keating served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 1956. It was there she met Edward J. Keating, of Chicago, a naval aviator. They married on September 25, 1954, at the Norfolk Naval Base and lived in MA and NY before moving to San Rafael in 1970. She was widowed in April 1974, when Mr. Keating died in Bali, Indonesia while flying for Pan American. Mrs. Keating was thrilled to open St. Raphael's first Kindergarten class in 1979. She retired in June of 1996, and enjoyed many years of reading, traveling, volunteering, genealogical research, antique shopping, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Keating volunteered with Marin County CASA, and at San Quentin, at Angel Island, and at SRHS. In 2003, the Saint Raphael's School Kindergarten Yard was redesigned and dedicated as the Keating Kindergarten Yard in her honor. She will be greatly missed by the many friends and past colleagues she leaves behind. Mom will always be remembered for her quick Irish wit, her unending love of children and learning, and her strong opinions. She will continue to be loved and missed dearly by her four children, Kathleen (Barry) Elkins, Eileen, James and Kevin (Nikki) Keating. Mom also leaves six adored grandchildren, Thomas and Kristin Elkins, Jacqueline Kate, Conor, Summer and Sean Keating. Memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, December 21 at Mission San Rafael Archangel. She will be interred with her parents at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
