Thomas Albert De Voto Tommy was born a sixth generation San Franciscan on August 31, 1977, was raised in Marin and left us far too soon on April 8, 2014. Tommy was born with developmental disabilities and spent his life educating others about both the needs and unique gifts of the disabled. He met every challenge with a determination that inspired his family and all those who came to know him. Tommy was an early resident of Lifehouse's Sunrise II program where a warm, dedicated staff loved and took excellent care of him. Tommy attended the Special Education classes through the Marin County Office of Education. Following that he was a participant at the Pomeroy Center, and has spent the last four years as a client of the Marin Ventures day program. There, along with his sister Julie, he enjoyed swimming, listening to music, painting and going on community outings throughout Marin. Tommy's family would like to thank the many people, too numerous to mention, who assisted him throughout his life for all of their efforts on his behalf. The family will be forever grateful. Tommy is survived by his grandmother Virginia De Voto, parents Terry and Chrissy, brother Mark, sisters Julie and Carolyn, and many cousins, aunts and uncles who loved him deeply. Tommy's entire family feels incredibly blessed to have had him in their lives and will miss him dearly. He was a gift to the world, pure in heart and strong in spirit. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15th at St. Anselm's church in Ross. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tommy's name may be made to either of two extraordinary organizations, Lifehouse or Marin Ventures.
