Clara Gayle Mitchell

Clara Gayle (Miller) Mitchell, 94, of Sandwich died April 1, 2012. Born in Norwich, CT daughter of the late John and Mary Miller. She received a BSS degree at Bryant University Providence, RI. During her working years she went from secretary to branch manager at a life insurance company. Later she worked in Social Services at Carney Hospital Milton, MA. She married the late William Mitchell in 1941. Both retired in 1970 and moved to Florida but returned in 1971 to So. Yarmouth for 12 years and then to Sandwich for many years. She had been active in Sandwich Womens Club but resigned and became involved with the Sandwich Glass Museum for 25 years as a trustee and beloved docent. She was also on the Board of Friends of Sandwich Library and the Cape Cod Glass Club. She and her late husband were active on many collecting vacations. She also loved her daschunds and her "Miss Kitty". She is survived by 1 daughter Beverly Pirtle of New Mexico, Dr. Wm Mitchell of Hawaii, their spouses, 3 grandchildren,1 great grandchild any many nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Simko. A memorial mass will be held April 12th at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Rd. E. Sandwich at 11AM followed by a reception at the parish center. Interment at 1:45 PM at the MA National Cemetery.
