Colleen Whalen Berman of Sandwich, MA went home to be with the Lord early December 28th. She peacefully passed away after a fearless 18 month battle with cancer at age 59. She was a dedicated and loving wife of Randall L. Berman of Sandwich, MA.
Hailing from Boston, MA, she was one of nine children born to her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Whalen. She was raised in Braintree, MA and was a graduate of Braintree High School. She then spent many years raising her two young daughters, and later went on to graduate from Bridgewater State College. With her compassion and love of people, she excelled in a Human Resources career for over 25 years. She retired early from Home Instead Senior Care due to her illness, but never stopped caring for those in her community.
Colleen spent most of her life dedicated to serving others, and was well known for her mentoring, leadership and friendship. Her family was of the utmost importance, and she never lacked a sense of humor and her infectious smile was always present.
Colleen was an avid reader, loved to sew and travel, but her greatest passion was her church ministry. She was deeply involved in various ways at both Eastern Hills Bible Church in Manlius, NY, and most recently at Church of The Redeemer in Cape Cod.
Colleen is survived by her husband Randall, daughter Rebekah Mino and grandson Zion Mino of Jacksonville, FL, daughter Rachel Gaede and son -in-law Jason Gaede of Denver, CO, her siblings; Maureen Paddock of Marstons Mills, Kathleen Whalen-Giannandrea of Braintree, MA, George Whalen Jr. of Arvada, CO, Robert Whalen of St. Albans, VT, Eileen Moore of Braintree, MA, Doreen Whalen-O'Shea of Bourne, MA, and Patrick Whalen of East Haddam, CT, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James Whalen of Del Rey, FL.
Colleen will be deeply missed by all that knew her, and we look forward to reuniting with her in heaven one day.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday January 3rd at 2pm at 2736 Falmouth Rd, Osterville, MA with a reception immediately following.
