Dorothy J Flanigan

CENTERVILLE - Dorothy Jane Flanigan of Centerville, MA, passed away February 22, 2026, at the age of 94 at the Carlyle house in Framingham, MA with her beloved family at her side. "Dot" was born May 29, 1931, at home in Valley Stream, New York to Helen (Meyer) Fertsch and Eugene H. Fertsch. Dot was very proud of her German ancestry and mentioned it often. Dot experienced the challenges of growing up during the Great Depression, World War II and the Korean War. Dot met her great and enduring love, Leo Flanigan, through wartime correspondence. Dot and Leo's daughter Maureen was born in 1961. Dot loved games, gossip, country line dancing, sewing, crafts, the red hatters, ice cream from four seas and Maggie's, Oreos, the family dogs, her homes in Baylon, New York, Marlow, New Hampshire, and Centerville, MA. However, nothing compared to Dot's fierce and enduring love for her family. Dot will be remembered for wrapping those she cared for in warm, cozy blankets.

Dot is survived by treasured family members daughter Maureen and her partner James Willitts of Upton, MA. Granddaughter Meghan Rezac and her husband Dave Rezac along with great granddaughters Marlow and Norah of Bolton, MA. Grandson Thomas Byrne Jr. and his wife Amanda Byrne along with great granddaughter Eleanor, of New Hampshire, and beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Church UCC, 136 Main Street Sandwich, MA at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 with burial to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MSPCA of Cape Cod, 1577 Falmouth Road Centerville, MA 02632.
