

Joan Willenborg died peacefully at her home in Forestdale June 13, 2011. Born in Saugus, Massachusetts March 14, 1929 to John and Edna Barnes. Joan attended local schools and was a 1950 graduate of Emanuel College in their first Marine Corps ROTC class. She was a commissioned second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. After a year she received an intra service transfer to the U.S. Army and trained at Walter Reed Army Medical Center to become a physical therapist until 1962 receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Captain. Joan is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Dr. George C. Willenborg. They met at Valley Forge Army Hospital where George was a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. They were married in 1961 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Prior to moving to Forestdale they lived in Branchburg Township and later Chatham, New Jersey where Joan opened and ran a Montessori school for ten years. After moving to Cape Cod in 1978 Joan was a physical therapist with VNA working primarily with children. A lifelong student, Joan studied Feldenkrais and Reiki healing. She offered numerous courses through local organizations on health and well being. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd. E. Sandwich on June 22, 2011 at 11 AM . Interment with Military Honors at 12:45 PM at the MA National Cemetery.
