With deep sorrow we announce the unexpected passing of John W. Colley Jr. On Thursday, February 18th, 2021, at home, at the age of 72. John resided in Sandwich, Mass for the past three decades.
John was born on Feb.24,1948, in Lakewood, N.J.,to John W. and Alma Mandel Colley. He excelled in cross-country and track, as a Lakewood Piner, where many lifelong friendships began. He received a degree in art education from the College of New Jersey and taught in the Jackson school district in the 70s. John was married to the former Carolyn Johnson, also a Lakewood native, for 12 years.
Overtime John displayed his artistic and creative abilities, and a passion for working with wood. From pen and ink, to in-numerous bird carvings and home furnishings and renovations,Johns diligence and keen eye for quality and detail came shining through. John also had a passion for golf and the camaraderie that ensued. His friends can attest to his unique wit.
There are two surviving siblings, Gregory H. Colley, Brick,N.J.,and Kimberly D. Mandel,Avenel,N.J..Also survived by a nephew,Gregory A. Colley, and two nieces Jacqueline E. Anderson and Sarah Mandel.
John's remains will be returned to Jersey and laid to rest with other family members. Now free to soar without this life's encumbrances we wish him eternal peace.
There are no plans to commemorate his passing at this time.
