John Joseph Mullin, Jr. 80, of West Barnstable, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 19, 2017, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Judith. His family lovingly remembers him as a kind, warm-hearted and gentle man; deeply devoted to his wife, his family, his faith, and his many friends.
Born on January 3rd, 1937 in Pawtucket, RI; the only child of John J. Mullin, Sr. and Margaret (Casey) Mullin, John was a student at St. Raymond’s School (1951), St. Raphael Academy (1954) and travelled the short distance to Providence, RI; completing his Undergraduate Degree at Providence College in 1961. He also served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve, being Honorably Discharged in 1962. He later returned to school and earned his MBA from Suffolk University in 1972.
Married to Elizabeth (Harson) Mullin in 1961; they soon settled in Franklin Massachusetts where they welcomed and raised four sons. Divorced in 1985, they remained united as supportive and loving parents to their well-travelled boys.
John enjoyed a challenging and varied professional life, working with many of the high-tech firms, which proliferated in New England. He spent the last eight years of his long and successful career employed by IBM.
In 1988 John met the love of his life, Judith (Labdon) Mullin, then they married and settled in West Barnstable, MA, which he called home for the remainder of his life.
Blessed with a deep and abiding faith, he derived his greatest joy and satisfaction from his family. The proud father of four sons he looked on approvingly, if not always comfortably, as each volunteered to serve their country in the United States Marine Corps and Army Reserve, with terms of service ranging from four to twenty-nine years.
As a child, John was captivated by the idea of flying, finally fulfilling his lifelong dream earning his Private Pilots’ license in the summer of 2001. He also passed his love of flight on to his boys, two of who became Marine aviators. John remained active in the local aviation community and was an enthusiastic member in good standing of the Cape Area Pilot’s Association (CAPA) and a member at the Thursday morning “Pilot’s Breakfast.”
John is survived by his devoted wife, Judith and his four loving sons: Christopher (Chantal) of Bloomfield Village, MI (Colonel, USMC (Ret)); Stephen (Jayne) of Fullerton, CA; John “Jay”, of Rocklin, CA (Lieutenant Colonel, USMC (Ret)); and Brian (Jessica) of Westborough, MA (Esq.); his step-children Maralee Glitzenstein (Kurt) of Concord, MA, Philip Meskinis (Jacqueline) of East Bridgewater, MA and his fourteen beloved grandchildren. Already deeply missed, he will be lovingly remembered by: Jordan, Fiona, Rori, Taylor, Michael, Jamie, Ian, Isabel, Matthew, Samuel, Jacob, Erik, Annika and Joshua.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 11th at the Our Lady of Hope Chapel, West Barnstable MA. Burial will be held at a later date.
