Born in Oneonta, New York on November 1, 1933 to the late Ernest J. and Ina (Every) Hungerford, Lionel served 21 years, active and reserve duty, with the U.S. Army. After finishing active duty in Germany, he moved from New York to Honolulu, Hawaii where he continued to live and work as an electrical engineering troubleshooter until he met his wife-to-be Charleen L. Johnson who was from Boston and was in Honolulu on vacation. They met in September 1968 and were married in Honolulu in July 1970, spending their honeymoon in Tahiti. Mr. Hungerford moved to Boston and the couple made their home in North Reading, MA until their individual retirements in 2006 and subsequent move to Sandwich.
Mr. Hungerford is predeceased by his brothers Charles and Clyde and his sister Esther. He leaves his brother Kenneth and sister Sarah, all from the Albany-Oneonta NY area.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, immediately followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest next to his good friend and brother-in-law, William A. Johnson in the Johnson family plot at the Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville. The burial service will be private.
