Lucy Netto Fonseca

She was born Lucinda Netto on September 19, 1916, in Dighton, MA, the daughter of Joao and Maria Sacramenta (Botelho) Netto.

Lucy grew up in Taunton, Mass. She was, first and foremost, a loving mother and grandmother and a long-time homemaker who, earlier in her life, was a dressmaker by trade.

On July 2, 1938, she was united in marriage to Manuel Martins Fonseca, also of Taunton.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Manuel, and her brother Arthur.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Daniel, 74, of Attleboro, and his wife Beverley; Diana Giampietro, 71, of East Sandwich, and her husband Louis (Fred); Dennis, 60, of East Sandwich, and his wife Carol; and Donna Lake, 53, of Sandwich, and her husband Steve. In addition to her children, Lucy had 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 12 great, great, grandchildren, and many other descendants through marriage.

Friends can share respects at a visitation with the family from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM, on Wednesday June 24, at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Rte. 6A, in Sandwich.

Funeral mass will be Thursday, June 25, at 10:30 AM, at the Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd, East Sandwich, MA. Burial will be private in Taunton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army or toward research efforts in the areas of either cancer, heart disease, or diabetes in Lucy’s name.
