Born in Salem, MA, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Dobrowski) Nahornuk.
Mrs. Smallwood had worked as a teacher for the Lynn and Walpole School Departments for many years, retiring in 1998.
She enjoyed gardening, yard sales but most of all she enjoyed playing word games with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Steven T. Smallwood of North Attleboro, MA and a daughter, Melinda Smallwood and her partner Janet Belding; 2 grandchildren, Peter Thomas Belding and Allie J. Belding. She was the sister of the late Peter Nahornuk.
