My son Scott was ‘sandwiched’ between 2 sisters, so when he was young I was always “on the lookout” for a boy his age to arrange “play dates”.  I picked up Scott from Kindergarten and as luck would have it, followed the K bus home.  “There’s my friend!”, Scott pointed as the bus stopped at Spring Hill Motor Lodge.  “Great!”, I said. “What’s his name?”  “Uh…..”, said the voice in the back seat.  I quickly turned the car into the parking lot, introduced myself, and Regina&I  arranged a play date for Scott and his new friend Peter.  It turned out to be a 2 for 1  sale as Scott would also talk about Peter’s brother Michael.  There was never any doubt that Scott and Peter always shared a special friendship, but it was a delight to come to meet & know Michael over the years—the sweetness, openness, enthusiasm,and humor that we loved about Peter seemed the same, yet different in Michael.  And the 2 for 1 sale? It grew into a 4 for 1 (and more!) as my girls worked there over the years and were guided by Regina and Trevor and extended family and returning customers.  As time passed. Regina&I found NAMI. For mutual concerns.  Our families always had canine or feline critters to compare notes on.  And today?
Zoom! Duh! 2023. We were so relieved that Peter could be a part of the service for his brother, be connected with those who love him and grieve with him yet know he was safe &taking care of his own healing at the same time.   OK…theologically “dust to dust” is what we’ve heard, (though retired nurses and inn keepers may sit upright with the dust reference). It was the Love to Love suggestion  that touched  us. And Ripple??  Perfect.   I don’t quite know how it all works, but I like to think that as Michael started on this new part of the journey that maybe Scott was ready to greet him.  “There’s my friend!” He might have said to other angels with tilted halos.  “Oh yeh”, they might have said, “Well what’s his name?”    “Uh…Michael!”

Mike was a gentle soul,  with a beautiful smile.

So sorry for your loss.  I remember taking dog walks around Scornton Creek with Mike this time of year. He was so kind and fun to be around. My deepest condolences and all my love to you and your family.

There's a flat of dunes and 
ocean lies ahead, 
Where barricades of sand and clay refract the tide from washing us away.
 And ocean grass blows by the pass, 
where I recall a pleasant sound which beckons me to falter off to sleep. 
The reminiscent times and places been. 
There comes a point when I'm not sure if these are dreams at all but then I wake and find the tide has broken through. 
And I realize something there thats rather new. 
And but for a moment innocence is new. - 
Mike was one of the best of us and one of my best friends. 
He will forever be with us and forever be missed.

I wish I had words for the unimaginable pain of the loss of Michael that you must be feeling. I never met Michael, but feel I got to know him a bit through my friendship with Regina. I know how much he was loved, and in the wonderful family photos here I can see how loving Michael was. He so often had his arm around another, whether it was Peter or maybe a cousin, or a friend .  Rest in Peace Michael.

Trevor, Regi and Peter,  we lived some 786 miles west of East Sandwich and vacationed twice a year at Spring Hill Motor Lodge. When Trevor constructed the pool, Mike and Pete would run to the pool when the water level was no more than 9" and wait with great anticipation for the appropriate death.
Mike and I got around to talking about Brian Wilson's reimagining rock n roll. Mike wondered how a guy as old as me remembered the Beach Boys. I challenged Mike to replicate some of the chording patterns Brian used.
There is a basic greatness of Mike that I will miss--his love of music and his love for Scrubbs. 
In those two simple ways Mike has left for all of us a legacy we would be wise to aspire to.

I have known Mike since we were teenagers and I moved from another state. His welcoming friendship was a shining beacon for me in a sea of awkwardness.  I am so thankful for him showing me that there are genuine good people in even the teenage world. Every interaction I have ever had with him was filled with genuine love and caring from him.  He is a great person who I am proud to have known because his greatness taught me to be a better person. I will miss him.

Oh Mikey. You were my buddy from day 1. Loved dressing you up, taking you to Chuckie Cheese and E-I-O ( aka McDonalds) , playing games on line, and hearing you say “ Auntie Mona!”. You were so excited to become an uncle to Zenzali and sorry you never got to meet her. She would have loved you. You were always so sweet  to me and I miss your smile. Give a hug and kiss to my mom and dad. Love you Mikey
