

Dick was born in Taunton, to Genie and Hjalmar Anderson in 1936. He graduated from Taunton High in 1953 and enlisted in the USMC. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. and then in 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Joan (Crowninshield) Anderson. After his service in the United States Marine Corp Dick and Joan then moved to Raynham. In 1964 they moved to Sandwich where Dick continued to work for General Work Clothes, driving daily to Connecticut for his delivery route. After several years he went to work at Riverview School in E. Sandwich as Superintendent of maintenance.
When Dick was 34 he enlisted in the police academy, just making the age limit. He became a Police officer and served for 25 years on the Sandwich Police Department.
After retiring from the Sandwich Police Department Dick and Joan moved to Naples, Fl. where they enjoyed 20 years of “vacation”.
When Dick’s illness was becoming more serious they moved back to Cape Cod to be near their children.
At the time of his death, Dick and Joan were staying with their son David and his wife Anna, at their home in E. Sandwich.
Dick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan (Crowninshield) Anderson and his sister Susan (Anderson) Selby.
He is also survived by his four children, Richard W., (Martha), Robert (Robin) Karen (Anderson) Resnick (Steve) and David J. (Anna). Also he is survived by grandchildren - Katie, Kelly, Matthew, Caleb, Jesse, Jamal, Adam, Chris and AJ great grandchildren Addison, Audrey, Kaydan, Bianca, Aidan, Liam, and Brooks with one more great-grandchild to be born to Katie next week.
The family of Dick and Joan Anderson would like to thank their many friends for the kind words, memories and expressions of condolence we have received during this period.
We would also like to thank the Hope Hospice organization, the aides that assisted Dick and his family at home and all those special people at the Mary McCarthy House here in Sandwich. This is an organization which we just can’t say enough wonderful things about.

A private family funeral service will be held at the National Cemetery on Friday September 4th.
