East Sandwich-Susan Kathleen McDermott Jacobsen died Sunday, May 5, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Manchester,CT, she was the daughter of the late Grace Donahue McDermott and

John Joseph McDermott. She was raised in Bolton, CT and attended Holy Trinity High School in Hartford, CT. and graduated from St. Joseph’s College (now The University of St, Joseph) in West Hartford CT. She was a graduate of Boston University School of Medicine’s program in Ophthalmic Medical and Surgical Technology and worked her full life in this field.

A long time Cape Cod resident and member of the Church of Corpus Christi, Susan sang in the choir and traveled with them, performing in France and Italy. Susan read widely, gardened, and took long walks with Karl and Roscoe the family dog.

Besides her husband, Karlhans Jacobsen, Susan is survived by her children, Aimee Gibbons and her husband, Dan of Greenfield, NH., and Mercedes Gilbert of San Francisco, CA. Two grandchildren, Caeli and Nathan Gibbons of Greenfield, NH. Five siblings:Eileen Donovan and her husband David Donovan of East Hartford, CT., John McDermott and his wife Sandie of South Windsor, CT.,Kevin McDermott and his wife Donna of Glastonbury, CT., Maureen Leventhal and her husband Todd of Washington, D.C., Nancy McDermott Halverson of Eatonville, WA., and twelve nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Janet Dwyer.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Rt 6A, Sandwich, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Church of Corpus Christi, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd, East Sandwich, MA., with the burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Sandwich,MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The McCarthy Care Center, Sandwich, MA.
