

Virginia was the daughter of the late Harold and Mabel Johnson of Brockton.
She leaves behind her brother Loring Johnson of Sandwich, and her loving children, Jeff (wife Debbie), Debbie (husband KG); Randy( wife Carmen) ; Diana (husband Gordon) and Johanna ( husband David). She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild who will miss her greatly.
Virginia was a graduate of Franklin College of Indiana, class of 1949. She then married Dr. John Lewis.. After Dr. Lewis completed medical school, they then moved to Sandwich, MA where she was instrumental in the establishment and expansion of his new practice.
Virginia raised 5 children then returned to school years later to receive her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Cambridge College. She then began her career in Sandwich Elementary Schools and taught 3rd and 4th grade for over 29 years in the Sandwich School System. Virginia was a vibrant leader in the drama dept., directing plays, recitals and chorus performances for the entire school, She had a gift and passion for teaching and touched many lives while being a teacher. She was awarded the first “Teacher of the Year” award and was given the “Fulbright Scholarship” for an exchange to Manitoba Canada for 1 year. For many years, she organized the volunteer efforts for the 4th of July parade celebrations in Sandwich and was the head chairman for the 350th anniversary of the Town of Sandwich.
Virginia was a strong active member of the First Church of Christ in Sandwich. She held many positions in the Church, from nominating committee, acting as deacon, and always being involved with various children’s programs, plays, chorus and theatrical productions including many of the Christmas Pageants. Virginia was also known for her performances in community theatrical productions for many years.
Virginia was a world explorer and adored international travel. She had thirst for learning new cultures then bringing their concepts back to her students. She thoroughly enjoyed her children and their families who are located all over the US. Traveling anywhere with friends, organizing community activities, playing her piano, reading historical novels and being ahead of her time gave her the most happiness she could ever want and was truly grateful for. She had many real friends and truly felt blessed that she had so many people that cared about her. We will carry stories about her life and her friends that will live on forever in our hearts. She was a woman that radiated the “love of living life to the fullest.” Her motto that she lived by was “If it’s going to be it’s up to me”.
