PAYNE, Virginia Mae (Bloom), 91, of Sandwich, MA, passed away at Bridges by Epoch in Mashpee, MA on December 11, 2020. She was born to the late Edgerton E. Bloom, and Mrs. Florence Bloom (MacDonald) on May 3, 1929 in Northwood, New Hampshire.
Virginia (“Jini”) grew up in Lee, NH, the youngest of 9 siblings, and attended public school there. At 18, she moved to Boston and attended Bryant & Stratton Business school, where she met her husband (preceded her death in 2011) of 62 years, Samuel (“Sam”).
They retired to western NC in Hendersonville in 1987 where she enjoyed many activities together, such as square dancing, baking, hiking the mountains and planning many family trips.
Jini always had a smile for everybody and a warm hug for those close to her. She “glowed” in the presence of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. While Alzheimer’s stole a lot from our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother the time we had left with her, it didn’t steal the ways we remember her.
She is survived by her son Gregory A. Payne of Aiken, SC and his wife Susan, her son Jeffrey L. Payne of Forestdale, MA. and his wife Julie, as well as 6 grandchildren-Sarah St, James and husband, Chris, Kathryn, Matthew Payne and Emily Davis, Andrew Payne, Joseph and wife Kaylie Payne, Rebecca and husband Kevin Stevens. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren- Carter, Sloan, Adley, Wolfe and Clara as well as her loving sister, Ruth (“Hike”) Twombley of Nottingham, NH.
Burial will be held on Monday May 3rd, 2021 at 11AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, where Sam is interred, in Bourne, MA.
