

Ada Morris Lamon passed away on November 11, 2021, at Piedmont Hospital where she was born on September 24, 1933, to Ada Davis Morris and Hollis Earl Morris. Ada had a joyful and wonderful life. Ada attended E. Rivers Grammar School, North Fulton High School, Wesleyan College, and Georgia State University.
Ada married Harry V. Lamon, Jr. of Macon, Georgia on June 17, 1954. They had known each other since he was 8 and she was 7 and spent many happy years together. Ada was a woman of great faith that led to a life of service to her family, her church, and her community. She was a long-time member of the Cathedral of St. Philip and served as President of the Episcopal Churchwomen, a Member of the Chapter (Vestry), and served as Junior Warden. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth’s Guild and was Chairman of the Cathedral Antiques Show which is held annually to benefit a special charitable project in the community.
An avid gardener for many years, Ada raised many species of orchids which she loved sharing with family and friends. She was an active member of the American Orchid Society. She was also a member of the Cherokee Chapter of the DAR and for five years served as Regional Chairperson for the Washington National Cathedral in our Nation’s Capital.
Ada and Harry were active members of The Community of the Cross of Nails (CCN) and they greatly enjoyed the many friends they met in Coventry, England and at CCN Conferences all over the world.
Ada is survived by her beloved husband: Harry of 67 years; 2 children: Hollis Morris Lamon (Jane), of Atlanta and Kathryn Lamon Gurley (James B. Gurley, Jr) of Atlanta. Her grandchildren include Hollis Hunter Lamon (Annie) of Glen Arm, Maryland, William Austin Lamon of Atlanta, James Benjamin Gurley lll of Atlanta and Kathryn Taylor Gurley of Santa Monica, California. Ada’s great grandchildren include William Tristan, Annabell Healey and Grace McCall Lamon of Glen Arm, Maryland.
A private family memorial service will be held at the Cathedral of St. Philip on Thursday November 18, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Cathedral Endowment Fund, 2744 Peachtree Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305.
