It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan Bruce Fried, 70, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, on the early morning of January 26th, 2024. He left us peacefully after a long, courageous battle with cancer, with his wonderful caretakers by his side at Heritage Hospice just two miles from his home in Marietta, Georgia. Allan’s presence illuminated the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished.
Allan was born on February 1, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Leonard Fried and Devora Goldstein. He grew up in Baltimore alongside his older brother Howard, whom he tremendously adored. Their childhood was marked by annual family vacations to Atlantic City, creating grand experiences to be fondly remembered for years to come. A great student, Allan attended and graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, and later Rider College in New Jersey.
Allan had an extraordinary gift for making friends wherever he went. His personality and genuine interest in others endeared him to countless people throughout his life. Whether in school, in his community, or during his travels, Allan had a remarkable ability to connect with others and forge meaningful relationships that lasted a lifetime.
A software developer by trade, Allan dedicated many years of his life to his career. He was known for his keen ability to effectively facilitate and achieve the visions of his clients, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers.
Allan was not only dedicated to his work but also deeply committed to his family. He is survived by his daughters Karli Smith and Kelcie Fried, son-in-law Chad Smith, granddaughter Caroline Smith, brother Howard Fried, sister-in-law Elizabeth, niece Rachel and her family, cousins Andrea, Herb, Howard, Debbie, Steven and their families. He will be remembered by his loved ones for his kind heart, generosity, humor and quick wit.
In his free time, Allan was cheering on the Atlanta Braves as a devoted “A-List” fan. He loved to frequent Truist Park for home games in the summers and especially in chilly “Choptober” for postseason excitement. Whether it was enjoying a craft beer on his back porch at home or soaking up paradise on the beach in Hawaii, he found joy and fulfillment in the things which brought him happiness.
As we bid farewell to Allan, may we find solace in the memories we shared and the love that will forever endure in our hearts. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his legacy will continue to guide and inspire us always.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the memorial service, which will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 1:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Cancer Society or Heritage Hospice & Palliative Care in memory of Allan Fried.
