Alyce Louise McGlone Everett, 98, passed away peacefully at home during her sleep. Mrs. Everett was born and raised in Dunmore, PA. She graduated from Marywood University and began her career after WWII as Head Dietician at New York’s Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research. While in NYC, she met and married Richard C. Everett, from Nashua, NH, at the St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church with a reception following at the St. Regis Hotel. They relocated to Atlanta in the early ‘50’s and joined Christ The King Church.
Mrs. Everett was predeceased by her parents John M. and Estelle S. McGlone, sister and brothers, and her husband of 51 years (in 2002). She is survived by her son, Richard Jr (Julie), and two grandchildren, Madeline and Richard III.
Mrs. Everett lived a full life before, during and after her 51 years married to Dick Everett. She supported her husband in all facets of his life from business entertaining to personal entertaining at home and at private clubs, and from his community service roles and endeavors to being such a great Catholic layperson and in helping grow Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Together, independently and with friends, they traveled the world with very few countries left unexplored.
She also found time for her own pursuits and passions. Mrs. Everett was a professional breeder of Dobermans and showed the best. She owned and rode horses until life got more complicated. She was a garderner extraordinaire, both at home and for the community serving as a Lifetime member of The Ivy Garden Club. She further served in numerous volunteer capacities for Pace Academy, the Symphony Orchestra, the High Museum, the Botanical Garden, the History Center, GA Historical Society, the Atlanta Music Club, Chastain Arts Center and the Marywood Alumni Association. Her family says that she seemed to practice the saying, “Give until it hurts” (but never showed any pain). She also followed her mother’s advice, “Never go into someone’s home with one arm as long as the other (i.e., without carrying a gift). Her presence alone was a gift to all who knew her.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 2, at 12:00 noon in St. Mary’s Chapel at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Dr, NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation payable to “Holy Spirit Catholic Church.” Check memo reference: “Alyce Everett.” Please send to the attention of Monsignor Dillon, c/o Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
