Angela Lyons Jardina of Atlanta, GA passed away peacefully, surrounded by her five living children, on May 15, 2026 at age 91. She and her twin brother were the youngest of seven children, which would later influence her desire to have a large family herself.
She attended Saint Joseph’s Nursing School in Savannah and returned back to Augusta to begin her career as a registered nurse. While there she met the love of her life, Philip, who was attending the Medical College of Georgia. They married on October 17, 1959 and drove to Boston that very night. Phil began his training for internal medicine, and Angela supported him through her nursing career practicing at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital.
Several years later they returned south to Atlanta, two children in tow and one on the way, where they would build their life together. Angela swapped her nursing apron and cap for all the gear needed to raise the six children they had together in seven years.
Angela raised her children with a loving discipline and was always involved in their lives, spending countless hours cooking and driving the children to youth sports and other activities. Being a devout Catholic, she insisted on the family observing not just the essential requirements of living the faith, but also encouraged a life of prayer and good deeds. She would regularly lead family rosaries.
Angela was a stoic, but warm person, who would disarm you with her blue eyes, beautiful smile, black hair and genteel manner. Being of Irish/Scottish descent, she never complained and was often stubborn if you tried to fuss over her. She never thought of herself first, and gave her all to her faith, husband, family, and friends.
In her later years, Angela loved spending time with her fifteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and her extended family of in-laws. She found a way to personally connect with everyone on a regular basis. She also enjoyed playing bridge, cheering on her Atlanta sports teams, and countless other activities.
For the past 19 months she enjoyed living independently at Somerby Sandy Springs where she made many new friends and enjoyed playing bridge, Rummikub and Bingo.
Angela is survived by her sister, Marguerite, her brothers Matthew and Bernard, her children Mary Morrison (Jamie), Mike (Paige), Paul (Lisa), Matt (Amy), Larry (Kimberley), and her daughter-in-law, Joanna, as well as fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, her parents, William Aloysius Lyons and Margaret McTeer Lyons, her brothers Alfred and Billy, her sister, Helen, and her son, Mark.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, May 25, 2026 from 5-7:00 PM, followed by a Rosary, at H.M. Patterson & Son - Arlington Chapel: 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
