Arthur James Cavanagh

Arthur (Art) James Cavanagh passed away peacefully at his home in Dunwoody, after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, the 31st of December, 2015. A longtime resident of Dunwoody, he was born in NYC on the 21st of October, 1932 the son of the late Arthur Cavanagh and Ethel Cavanagh McGary. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Veronica, his children, Jennifer Claire Utley (Robert), Amy Gayle Cavanagh, Andrew James Cavanagh (Colleen), and his grandchildren, Ansley Claire Utley, Jack Michael Utley, McKenna Claire Cavanagh, and Colin James Cavanagh. Art was a Regional Vice President of MGIC/CLIC in charge of opening offices in the Caribbean, New York and New Jersey. He went on to build his appraisal firm, serving much of the greater Atlanta area, was a US National Swimming Official, and for years was well known throughout the community as a stand out baseball coach. Art was a member of Dunwoody Country Club, All Saints Church, and dearly loved his family, friends, and baseball. Art played baseball in the minor leagues and his love of baseball carried over to watching his son, Andy, make it to the minor leagues. His passion for baseball continued to his grandson, Jack, whom he followed throughout the country to watch play the game! He was a graduate of La Salle Prep New York City and Hoffstra University and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. The family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel Dubovsky and his team at Northside Hospital. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, the 6th of January at half past ten o’clock in the morning at All Saints Catholic Church, 2443 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338. Instead of flowers, the family prefers that contributions be made to Assistance League of Atlanta, PO Box 80769, Chamblee, GA 30366 or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home, 760 Pollard Blvd. SW, Atlanta, GA 30305. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Tuesday from six until eight o’clock in the evening at H. M.
