

Mr. Carroll C. Barfield of Atlanta, a printing company owner and executive for many years, died October 10, 2012. He was 98 years old. Mr. Barfield was President and owner of Barfield Business Forms Corporation and Barfield Envelope Company. He was Vice-President and Director of Baltimore Business Forms Corporation and a founder of Southeast Federal Savings & Loan Association. Mr. Barfield was a Past President of Printing Industry of Atlanta, Vice-President of Master Printer's Section of America, President of International Business Forms Association, and in 1974 received the Benjamin Franklin Award for outstanding service and contributions to the Graphic Arts Industry. Mr. Barfield served in the Army Air Force as a Flight Instructor in World War II and trained more than one hundred pilots. He was an active past member of Epworth, Calvary, Audubon Forest and most recently Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, having served as Board Chairman, Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, Youth Director, Finance Chairman, Lay Leader and Chairman of the North Georgia Conference Sunday School Superintendents Association. For over 60 years, Carroll performed as a Master of Ceremonies at church banquets, Printing Industry events, Civitan and other organizations' parties. He loved to make people laugh, and often substituted his friends' names into the jokes he was telling. Mr. Barfield also organized a church bowling league that lasted for thirty years. He was a Director of the Link Counseling Center, President of the West End Citivan Club, a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, a member of Canongate Country Club, and Life Member of American Mensa Society. His family and friends all agree that he was a man of great integrity, dependability, and devotion to them and to God. He believed that he was put on this earth and given a long life in order to help anyone in need, to care for his family, and to serve his God. Surviving are his wife of 77 years, Marjorie Ray Barfield; two daughters: Bobbie Sherrod and husband John, and Billie Sheffield; four grandchildren: Steve Sherrod and wife LeeAnne, David Sherrod and wife Staci, Rayne Roper Wilder and husband Chris, and Rustin Roper and wife Kelly; and six great-grandchildren: Andrew, Rory and McKenna Sherrod, Addison and Griffin Roper, and Ben Wilder. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to United Methodist Children's Home or Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11 o’clock at Patterson’s Arlington Chapel with Dr. Ken Ray officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
