Dolores Grittner Lane passed away on September 14, 2021 at her home in Atlanta surrounded by her children. A private service celebrating her life will be held at a future date. The family suggests a donation in her memory to St Jude Children’s Hospital, stjude.org
Dolores “Dee” was born in St. Cloud, Mn. She left Minnesota with her sister, Lorraine, and three friends after high school graduation and headed to California at the beginning of WWII. After a few years, Dee and her sister returned East to start their next adventure.
Dee held several jobs and lived in multiple states until she met her husband, Jack, on a blind date in Washington, DC. She drove herself to the date just in case it didn't work out. She always loved to say, "he rescued me from the cold". They married and had three children in three and half years and a little surprise four years later.
Dee enjoyed giving back to her community by volunteering with the League of Womens Voters, at local hospitals, the Roswell Clothes Closet and later in her life, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St.Petersburg, Fl. Along with her sister Lorraine, they were known as the “bagel and breakfast ladies” at their morning bible study.
Dee was an avid shopper, reader, world traveler and news junky. She loved watching the Atlanta Braves and college football rooting on the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers. She loved her Time magazine and had a subscription until 2023! She FaceTimed her sister every Friday and spoke to her every night at 8:00pm. Just by chance, she was fortunate to have an extended FaceTime call on Monday night with Lorraine.
Family was at the center of Dee's life. She loved celebrating any event and was fortunate to have many years on earth to enjoy not only her children but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family included her husband of 42 years, Jack, who predeceased her, 4 children: Michael Lane, Victoria Lane Morgan (Benjamin), Margaret Lane, Jean Lane Foster (George), 7 Grandchildren: Sarah Morgan Kiser (Patrick), Katie Lane, Michael Morgan (Morgan), Lily Lane, Taylor Foster Heffern (Andrew), Robert Lane, John Patrick Foster. She was also blessed with 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
We were blessed to have our mom for longer than most and she will be greatly missed, but we know she is now reunited with our dad enjoying a vodka martini on the rocks with an olive or two at 5:00 o'clock each night.
Cheers to you mom, we love you!
Mike, Vickie, Margaret and Jean
