Elizabeth Lenox Gibbs died on October 10, 2010 following a brief struggle with post-operative illness. She was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1939. Affectionately known as “Liz”, she attended the University of Michigan and, after a love-at-first-sight romance, married Sherwin Gibbs. The two celebrated their 49th anniversary before Sherwin’s death on October 31, 2008. Throughout her life Liz consistently put family first, having cared lovingly for her parents and her mother-in-law in their later years in addition to her husband and children. After the children grew up, Liz joined Sherwin in his insurance agency in Marietta, Georgia. Her clients often commented on her efficient business practices and her kind, respectful manner. She is survived by her four children: Gerald, Mike, Betty and Marc, and their families, and a brother, Hank Lenox of Detroit, Michigan. Her seven grandchildren benefited greatly from the warm and stable foundation of the Gibbs household and the close-knit relationships they had with their dear grandmother. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Arlington Memorial Park with Rabbi Barry Coffsky officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Rd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.
