James (Jim) Croxton Spearman, Sr., age 86, of Milton, GA (formerly of Dunwoody, GA), passed away peacefully with his family by his side and into the arms of his Savior on December 26, 2020 after a short battle with cancer.
Jim was a native of South Carolina and was the son of Joe C. and Minnie Farrow Spearman, and the younger brother of Margie Spearman Groves. After playing a year of college football at Wofford College, Jim transferred to the University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks!) where he was an Air Force ROTC graduate and a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Jim carried his love of the University of South Carolina with him his entire life. Upon graduation from "Carolina", Jim married his high school sweetheart, the former Barbara Coker Anderson of Cheraw, SC, and began his career in the United States Air Force reaching the level of Captain.
Following his time in the Air Force, Jim had a long career in sales management in the life insurance industry, first in Chattanooga, TN, before relocating to Atlanta, GA in 1971.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, and their three children, Lee Spearman of Birmingham, AL, James (Jay) C. Spearman, Jr. (Paige) of Dunwoody, GA, and Jane Spearman Sedran (Michael) of Birmingham, AL.
In addition, Jim is survived by his four grandchildren, Andie Spearman Workman, Parker Spearman, Riley Spearman and Kendall Sedran. Jim so enjoyed keeping up with all the activities and accomplishments of all four and he loved the special relationship he shared with each. Jim is also survived by his older sister, Margie Spearman Groves, as well as his two nieces and a nephew.
Due to COVID, a private, family only service will be held. Following the service, the family will gather for barbecue and college football, two things Jim loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Thornwell Home for Children, P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325-9972, or the charity of your choice.
