Jennifer Shields King, age 49, was welcomed into the Lord’s Kingdom in the early morning hours of Good Friday, April 18, 2025, following a courageous five-year battle with breast cancer. Surrounded by her devoted husband, children, mom, and dear friends, Jennifer’s final moments were filled with peace and grace as she sang “This Little Light of Mine,” a testament to the unwavering faith that carried her home to her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born on February 1, 1976, in Birmingham, Alabama, Jennifer grew up in a loving Christian home and was an active member of Homewood Church of Christ, where she participated enthusiastically in the youth ministry. She graduated from Pelham High School, where her vibrant personality shone through in choir, show choir, and as a first-place talent show winner. Jennifer was also an avid lover of horses and participated in equestrian events growing up. Jennifer went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Montevallo, where she was a proud member of Phi Mu sorority.
Jennifer built a meaningful and successful career in graphic design, using her creativity to serve organizations including Children’s Hospital of Alabama and Dunwoody Baptist Church. In 2008, she met the love of her life, Jeremy King, and they married in 2010. Their love was deeply rooted in faith, friendship, and mutual admiration.
The Kings were active members of Church of the Highlands in Birmingham before relocating to Dunwoody, Georgia in 2017, where they joined Dunwoody Baptist Church. Jennifer became an active and passionate member of the worship team, faithfully leading worship until the final days of her illness. Her voice and spirit inspired countless hearts.
A passionate and dedicated mother, Jennifer generously gave her time and talents to the communities that shaped her children’s lives - volunteering at Austin Elementary, Peachtree Middle School, Redfield Swim & Tennis Club, Reins of Hope Atlanta, and Orbit Arts Academy. Her warmth, creativity, and servant heart left a lasting impact everywhere she served.
Jennifer loved live music, crafting, shopping, and her dogs - but above all, she cherished her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jeremy King; her adoring children, Alaina (12) and Joshua (10); her devoted mom, Darla Dobbs of Gardendale, Alabama; and her cherished grandmother, Jaclyn Brothers (Marnie) of Hoover, Alabama. She also leaves behind a host of extended family, church family, and friends who were forever touched by her radiant light.
Jennifer’s life was a reflection of her faith, strength, joy, and compassion. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
