John Inman Bell, Jr. passed away on January 9, 2021. He was born in Atlanta, GA on October 20,1929, the son of Nellie Rennie and John Inman Bell. John was a fourth generation Atlantan. He is survived by his wife for over 67 years, the former Rose Elyea, and one son John Inman Bell, III. Mr. Bell graduated from the old Marist College on Ivy Street, and received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1951. While at Tech, he was a member Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, served on the Student Council, and was Associate Editor of “The Technique”. Following graduation, he worked as a construction engineer in Texas and Louisiana. He was involved with the construction of the Savannah River nuclear facility in South Carolina. He was an engineer with Bell South and held several positions during his 16 years with the Lockheed Georgia Company including Plant Engineer of the Georgia Nuclear Laboratory in Dawsonville, GA, and Department Manager in Marietta, GA. Mr. Bell was a vice-president of The Landmarks Group, a real estate development company. He served as President of the Fulton County Developer’s Association, was on the Board of Georgia Developers Association and served on the Atlanta Regional Commission Advisory Board. He founded his own company in 1981, specializing in development management, real estate and consulting. He was a licensed Georgia Real Estate Broker. He was a Past President of “The Burns Club of Atlanta”, a member of “Sons of the Colonial Wars”, “Sons of the American Revolution “, and “The Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia”. Mr. Bell was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and taught adult Sunday school for many years. He was a member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club. He was an avid genealogist, having published several articles on his family, and enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Highlands, NC. A graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 2 o’clock.
