John T. Holt

John Thow Holt, age 87, died Tuesday December 9, 2014. He was born March 20, 1927 in Brooklyn N.Y to Isabella Raitte and Nathaniel Holt. After high school he enlisted in the Navy during WWII to serve in the Pacific theatre on the destroyers U.S.S Grayson and U.S.S Tennessee. John and his family attended St James UMC for 54 years and he served on the Pastor Parish Committee, Board of Trustees, Chairman building and grounds and ushers. John belonged to the Masonic Order and served as Past Master Palestine Lodge #486, District Deputy Grand Master, Past High Priest Mt Zion Chapter #16, Past Illustrious Master Jason Burr Council, Past Commander Atlanta #9, State Chairman Knight Templar Eye Foundation, Knight York Cross of Honor, Knight Templar Cross of Honor, Past Sovereign Master Luther G Palmer York Rite College #123, Zarthan Council #329, A.M.D. Past Sovereign Master. He was also a member of Yaarab Shrine Temple and was a member of the Legion of Honor where he served as Parade Marshall and Potentate’s Aide. He achieved the honorable rank of 33rd degree Mason. Professionally John was a packaging broker for Broach Packaging and after he retired started his own company Holt Enterprises. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Roseann Eichner; daughter, Cathy and husband, Ken Brashear and grandson, 1C Midshipman John Randolph Goulding of Atlanta; son, Chet John and wife, Sharon and grandson, Adam Michael of Roswell; son, Steve Arthur and wife, Sonja, and grandchildren, Daniel, and Chelsea of South Carolina; son, John Douglas, Judy Miller and Nicholas Miller of Marietta; son, Bryan James and wife, Judy and granddaughter, Bryanna Lynn of Gainesville. A celebration of his life will be held Friday December 12th, 2014 at 2:00 pm at St James United Methodist Church, 4400 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta, GA. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. in the church parlor. Graveside service will follow the service at Arlington Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St James UMC.
