John Vernon McAuliffe was born in Miami, Florida on May 2, 1926, the son of Henry Eugene and Leola Hinson McAuliffe. In 1937 he moved with his parents, brothers, Henry Eugene McAuliffe, Jr. and Hinson McAuliffe and sister Venetia McAuliffe to Atlanta and has been a resident of the Atlanta area until his passing on April 4, 2018. Vernon served in the Navy during World War II and upon completion of his service enrolled at the University of Georgia obtaining a degree in business in 1951. He worked many years for the Internal Revenue Service from which he retired in 1989. He was a lifelong fan of Georgia football and was well versed in many areas. Vernon was loyal to family and particularly focused on the wellbeing of his parents throughout their lives. Vernon was predeceased by his parents, brothers and sister. He is survived by nephews and nieces including Gene McAuliffe, Gary McAuliffe, Lee McAuliffe Rambo, Jack Rambo, Lynne Rambo, Jim McAuliffe, Claire McAuliffe Ellis and extended family. A family graveside service will be held at Crest Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, April 10, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Georgia or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
