Judy Howle Chastain of Duluth, GA passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Judy was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Robert Chastain. Just two years ago, Judy experienced the heartbreak of “til death do us part” when Robert went home to be with the Lord. Judy joins him now, and together in heaven, they are at peace with Jesus.
Those who knew Judy had no doubt that Robert was the love of her life, her soulmate. It was love at first sight when they met at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta during auditions for a community production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Throughout their marriage of over 39 years they enjoyed international travel, relaxing at the beach on Amelia Island, FL, and loved the mountain views while spending time at Asheville, NC’s Biltmore Estate.
In her professional life, Judy was a trailblazer in the field of marketing and media. She quickly rose through the ranks at Turner Broadcasting System which later merged with Time Warner, where Judy ultimately retired as Senior Vice President of RET Media. She had a sharp wit and sense of humor, was incredibly bright, and often the only female in meetings with some of the most powerful men in media.
Her diminutive stature did not stop her – working with Ted Turner for many years, she broke through the glass ceiling before other women knew it existed. She was also integral to the development and opening of “Inside CNN” behind the scenes discovery tours. When speaking with those who worked under Judy’s leadership, they reference a woman with professionalism and poise. Her elegant southern charm was just the beginning. She was a respected leader and mentor. Judy blazed her trail, and with momentum, carried others along with her. Whether it was TBS, CNN, or Time Warner, her work was respected and valued. Her talent was unmatched.
A loving wife, daughter, and friend, caring for her husband and parents for many years, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hugh Chastain, her mother, Lula Hunter Howle, father, James Joye Howle, and brother, James (Jimmy) Richard Howle Sr. Judy is survived by grand nephews, Coker Ryan Howle and Jackson Joye Howle, two wonderful cousins, Pamela and Holly, mother-in-law Ana Chastain, sister-in-law Linda (Tom) Lancaster, brother-in-law Anthony (Leisa) Chastain, niece Rachel (Bob) Bryant, and nephew Dr. Stephen Lancaster.
A service will be held at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, Sandy Springs at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 1, 2026, with a reception to follow.
