So very saddened by Mark's passing. We  wish Mark's family much strength during this bereavement time.
Over our newspaper carreer years, I was fortunate enough to meet, work with and work for Mark. He possessed an uncanny ability to relate to those around him with a subtle, unassuming grace that few possess. 

Moreover, Mark brought people together. 

I thing I can speak for many that consider themselves  blessed for having known him as a wonderful friend.

First let me say that I can not believe that Mark has passed.It has been a few weeks since I have heard from him,and that is the longest time between conversations I think I can remember.If your phone rang and you saw it was Mark,you better not be busy with something because he always had lots to talk about.Mark loved to help people and to offer his assistance to anyone.And when I say everyone I mean everyone.Teachers,young people,old people,lost souls,Heroin addicts,sick people,people with financial troubles,it didn't matter.He lived by his deeds and that made you do the same.He loved to talk about his family.He was so proud of his brothers success and their children.The summers in Georgia were the time he looked forward to the most.He always had great stories and memories of the time spent there.He offend talked about his parents and how he wished they were closer to visit.When I would see Mark I would always say "Here comes big money"And he would say the same to me.With a big smile on his face.My only riches is having known him.God bless you my friend rest in peace.

To the entire Herrick family I send my deepest condolences. It is through Mark I learned what a special family you all are. I was lucky enough to have him as a great friend. I am so lucky to have known him and call him friend. That is just how I would greet him. When he would say good by for the day he would always say, You take care brother. So now I say, you travel safe brother. You will be missed.

I knew Mark Herrick as the Director of the Retail Advertising team at The Star Ledger when he   made the decision to hire me back in 1996. He was the epitome of leadership as top guy and always carried himself with class in good times, as well as during challenges...consistently approachable and always giving the greatest motivation and support.  Our department was truly a family when we worked under his supervision with ties that still remain.  I left The Star Ledger in 2003, but the memories I have of him, calm demeanor, always the best dressed person the room, are still vivid and make me smile - along with his professional standard and wit.  Rest in peace Mark Herrick. Your standard was our inspiration and I will never forget you.  Sending condolences to all who know and love him.

My deepest sympathy to Mark's family.  Please take comfort in the fact that Mark was a terrific guy. In 1988, Mark hired me at the Star Ledger when he was the Ad director.  He was a very good judge of character and had a tremendous talent of hiring the "right" people who fit the Star Ledger family, a wonderful work environment/culture that he created. To this day, some of my closest  friends are previous co-workers from the Ledger thanks to Mark and that was almost 30 years ago .  Mark added a sense of style and class to the Star Ledger, complemented by his travel experiences and a vision for the newspapers future.  Very sad to hear of his passing

My heart is heavy to hear about the passing of Mark.  I'm sadden beyond believe.  I really enjoyed working with him at The Star-Ledger.  My deepest condolences to family.
