Mary Davis McDonald, age 78, passed away at Piedmont Hospital January 9, 2019. Mary was born in Indianapolis on July 27, 1940, the daughter of Raulin Frederick Davis and Mary Avonell Davis of Kokomo, Indiana.
Mary attended Purdue University and the University of the Americas in Mexico City. She worked for Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo before her marriage, and move to Atlanta, her home, for 52 years. Mary was the mother of two children, James Thompson McDonald, III of Memphis, TN and Frances McDonald Reynolds, of Lafayette, GA and the grandmother of four, Clara, Thompson and Coleman McDonald and Hayden Reynolds.
Mary was an active volunteer, as a member of the Sandy Springs Society, Shepard Spinal Center Auxiliary, Salvation Army Auxiliary serving as its Treasurer, and Riverside West Garden Club where she served as president. Mary was a member and volunteer of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. For seven years, Mary was first a volunteer for the Atlanta Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, and later an employee of the Atlanta Olympic Committee, working in support of the 1996 Olympic Games.
Mary is survived by her husband James T. McDonald, Jr, brother David Frederick Davis of Huntington, Indiana, her two children and four grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt and grand-mother. In lieu of flowers, we ask that a memorial be made to the Salvation Army in Mary’s name.
The Memorial Mass with a reception after the Mass will be Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11 o’clock at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Dr., Atlanta, GA 30327.
