It has taken me months to write. I have been unable without breaking down...I miss the best friend I have ever had. He was the 1st person I met when My wife & I moved to St Thomas. He was kind hearted and took us right in . He was always funny,listened to us ,gave advice, wouldnt let me have bacon ( for my health) even though he charged me for it! Always cared for us as a friend.I have NEVER met a man as graciuos as he. Our lives are better for knowing him those 13 years......An angel gone to soon...

There aren't many people you meet in life with as exciting, lively, and charming a personality as Richard.  We met while my wife and were traveling in St Thomas and happened across his restaurant in old town, Mercury Cafe.  He greeted us in the alley and invited us in for a glass of wine on a hot day.  We decided to sit at a table in the alley.  We continued our conversation about how he went from being in the wine business to the restaurant business. The walls inside the restaurant were proof of his love for wine.  While we couldn't finish the bottle, he said that he would keep it on ice until we returned for dinner that night.  I offered to pay for the bottle and he said he would keep the tab open until later.  We returned for dinner and continued getting to know him.  

During our conversation he invited us to the beach the next day with his wife and very young daughter.  We were pleasantly surprised by his gracious offer and he met us the next day at our hotel and picked us up.  

While hanging out at the beach we were amazed at how many people stopped to say hello to Richard.  He knew everyone, and the phrase 'he never met a stranger' is befitting.  

Richard ultimately sold the restaurant and moved to Marietta where we were finally able to reconnect in 2012 through email.  While it took until last year to finally meet again and have dinner, we were able to share a few old memories and make plans for the future.  I am sorry for that lost time between the years.  Which only makes it more urgent to surround yourself with people who give you value, as Richard has, and to give away the love he so easily offered.

Richard left an indelible imprint on the family and friends he left behind.  We will remember him fondly.
