

Ronald "Homer" Jerry Martin, age 74, was born on September 8, 1941, in Atlanta, GA. He was a resident of Buckhead and passed away on July 30, 2016. Jerry was the son of William Allen and Lucille Martin. Jerry graduated from North Fulton High School and Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, where he earned a BS Degree in Industrial Management. He was the first athlete to ever receive a baseball scholarship at GA Tech and was an ROTC graduate. Following graduation he entered the USAF and along with his wife Brenda and mother of his children, he was assigned to Ernest Harmon AFB in Shenville, Newfoundland for two and one half years. After four years, he was released from the USAF with the rank of Captain, and commenced employment with Bell South where he subsequently retired. Jerry enjoyed hunting especially with the dogs that he trained for quail and pheasant hunting. He attended many "Shag" dancing competitions as he was an excellent dancer, and enjoyed competing. He is survived by his son, Brett Martin of Newnan, GA (and wife Adrian), and daughter, Amanda Shelton of Panama City, FL (and husband Jeffrey). Also, brother Bill Martin of Jacksonville, FL, (and wife Linda), Sister-in-law, Sandra West, Brother-in-Law, Wayne West, of Marietta, GA, 3 granddaughters, Ashley Knight, Kelsey Dobson, and Katey Dobson, and 1 grandson, Andrew Martin, nieces, Linda Suttles and Nicole West, 1 nephew, Chris West and numerous other family and friends. Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, the 4th of August at three o’clock at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Friends may visit with the family following the service and the party will continue at Johnny’s Hideaway, 3771 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA 30342 from seven o’clock until half past eight o’clock in the evening. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
