

Sally Louise Shannon, 61, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Northside Hospital surrounded by friends and family who loved her dearly. Sally was born in Buckhead and was a life- long resident of the Atlanta Area. She was educated at North Fulton High School and graduated with honors from North Georgia State University in Dahlonega. Her professional life started at Western Electric in Atlanta in 1973. After a 5 year career there, she assumed a position at the Boise Cascade Corporation. She returned to AT&T in 1980 and worked in various positions of responsibility as a systems analyst until her retirement in 2008. Sally was raised in the Baptist Faith and among her Church affiliations was Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta. Sally was an avid reader and collector. She and friends enjoyed attending many collector events. Sally will be most remembered as a loving, generous, and care giving daughter, aunt, mother, and friend. She gave freely and often of her resources, time, and home to many family members in need of love and support. Her home was always open and was the scene of many family gatherings. Sally loved to orchestrate and could always be counted on to organize and remember important occasions. She was the family historian and the accumulator and keeper of rich family traditions. She sacrificed her comfort and gave freely of her time that she could have spent in other pursuits, to be the primary care giver to her loving parents in their later years. She could always be counted on to be there when she was needed and gave of all her resources to assure that her parents were loved and protected. Sally’s greatest triumph in her life lives on in her 8 year old son, Auden. Auden is a bright, beautiful, and compassionate human being molded with all of Sally’s attributes. His success in his life will be a measurement of Sally’s wonderful love and support. In addition to Auden, Sally leaves behind her mother, Opal Shannon, brother, Stephen Shannon, sister-in-law Vicki, niece, Melissa Whitlow, nephew, Mark Shannon, great-niece and great nephew Madeline and Peyton Whitlow , cousins, Janice Bales, Mickey Gazaway, Gary Wigley, and Joe Fishback. Sally also leaves her dear friends, David and Vicki Nash, Norma Hodges, Terri Miller, Judy Stanfield, and Maryann Merritt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., NE, Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345 Funeral services will be Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11 o’clock at Patterson’s Arlington Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at H.M Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
